Trusted by Families Visiting The Emerald Coast
You came here to relax, but the Gulf doesn’t care about your vacation.
Riptides, strong currents and sudden weather shifts turn these beautiful waters deadly fast.
Dozens of people (mostly tourists, just like you) drown here every year. Not because they were reckless, but because they didn’t understand the water or flag system.
We created this guide to make sure that doesn’t happen to you and have the best vacation.
This is essential info for anyone visiting the Emerald Coast… and it could save your life

My wife and I grew up in Maui, Hawaii barefoot, sun-kissed, and raised by the ocean. Big wave surfing, free diving, fishing… the ocean shaped our childhood and taught us deep respect for its power.
When we moved to the Emerald Coast, we felt right at home, until we learned the shocking truth: THIS IS THE DEADLIEST BEACH IN AMERICA!
We had no idea and we realized, most visitors don’t either. While our son was in the Junior Lifeguard program, it hit us even harder, there’s barely any real education about the ocean and beaches for the tourists. Families come here unprepared, and it’s costing lives.
We couldn’t just stand by and stay quiet any longer. So we created the BeachSmart eBook. A quick, no-fluff guide to help families enjoy the ocean safely and confidently. We put everything we wish more families knew into this one guide and it’s instantly downloadable, even on the drive down.
Stay Smart, Stay Safe! Be BeachSmart :)

We were totally clueless. This made it feel like we had a local expert in our back pocket.
— Brittany L., Atlanta, GA
As a mom, safety is everything. I’ve downloaded plenty of PDFs before, but this one hit different. Real advice from someone who clearly knows the ocean.
— Jenna M., Nashville, TN
We had no clue what the red flag really meant until we read this. Just one day later, a rip current pulled near us. Thanks to the BeachSmart guide, we all knew what to do.
— Nate H., St. Louis, MO
If you're visiting the Gulf, this is a must-have. It’s not fear-based, it’s empowering.
Always look for flag warning systems and lifeguard towers. Most public beaches across the Emerald Coast are staffed with lifeguards from spring through fall, especially at larger beach access points.
The Emerald Coast uses a color-coded beach flag warning system to signal water conditions and dangers.
Don't guess - study the flags in advance and teach your family what each one means. One wrong flag can turn into a life-or-death situation.
From sharp shell beds and steep drop-offs to stingray zones and buried debris, the beach isn't always what it seems.
Knowing where and what to look for can save you from injury - or worse. This guide walks you through real beach hazards most visitors never even consider.
